Regionally, Miller-Keystone Blood Center has had over 200 blood drive cancellations, resulting in the loss of more than 5,400 blood donations. Walk-in donors are not accepted at this time.
While walk-in donors are traditionally welcome, in the current “social distancing” environment Miller-Keystone Blood Center has implemented an appointment-only policy at both its Donor Centers and Blood Drives.
Due to the swift and generous response of the community, Miller-Keystone’s community’s blood supply is stable at this time. However, there are patients who require blood routinely as part of their cancer treatment, as well as accident victims, premature infants and more.
Due to “stay at home” restrictions and “social distancing” recommendations, very few bloodmobile drives will be held in the foreseeable future. The need for blood never ends, but the supply certainly can if it’s not available.
Miller-Keystone Blood Center has expanded the hours at its donor center locations in Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and Reading to accommodate the ongoing transfusion needs of the regional hospitals.
