Schuylkill court extends deadline for commissioner applicants

With the recommendation of Schuylkill President Judge William E. Baldwin, the county has extended the date to accept resumes from people seeking to fill the term of Commissioner Frank Staudenmeier, who died Feb. 29.

Baldwin said that Fourth Class County Code provides that when a vacancy occurs in the office of county commissioner, the Court of Common Pleas must appoint someone. As Staudenmeier was a Republican, the new appointee must also be a Republican, and the appointment will be for the balance of the unexpired term.

According to Supreme Court rule, the court shall receive applications from candidates. Baldwin initially set the deadline as March 30.

On Monday, he extended the deadline to 4:30 p.m. April 6.

They can be mailed to Judge Baldwin, 401 N. Second St., Pottsville PA 17901, or they can be dropped off in care of Sheriff Joseph Groody at the public entrance to the courthouse.

Baldwin said that the resumes should include contact information and educational background, as well as work, management and government experience.

Selection will be by a vote of Schuylkill County’s five judges.

Once a selection is made, the court will enter an order, and the person would take an oath of office, Baldwin said.
