A look back: March 31, 2005

Carbon County prison board members, by virtue of no reply to a question posed them by Warden William Juracka at Wednesday’s prison board meeting about pursuing a modular prison facility from an upstate New York county, are apparently no longer interested in the facility.

Juracka and Commissioner William O’Gurek visited Lawrence County, New York, last month to look at the modular unit that would house 47 additional inmates. They recommended pursuing the unit, which Lawrence County would give to the county for the cost of relocating it, which is estimated at $400,000.

The Carbon board has taken a “wait and see” position, but Juracka said another county is interested in the unit.
