West End officials support stay-at-home order

Local officials are reinforcing the stay-at-home order for Monroe County.

Rep. Jack Rader, R-176, spoke from Harrisburg on Wednesday.

“I’m looking at ways we can make things better for businesses for the economy, for our schools, and for our election code,” Rader said Wednesday.

Rader discussed the importance of bipartisan collaboration legislation during this crisis.

“In times like these we have to look to those people who have the power to do what they’re doing. We have to stand behind the governor. I don’t think everything he is doing is perfect, but he should have more information than the rest of us. I think it’s important to follow his guidelines,” Rader said.

He said the tri-state area should have effective discourse among their leaders, as they all share similar ramifications of the virus.

“I think it would have been very important for the governors up in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to work together recently on the issues. But for right now, we have to support and listen to the leader of our state and try to do what he says.”

He asked people to abide by the order.

“These are really trying times for everybody - I think we just have to do what we can do to get through them, whether it’s work-related, or whether it’s staying at home when you really don’t want to,” Rader said.

“We are all doing things that we don’t want to do. I think it’s important to listen to the governor and try to do what he says, and try to kick the coronavirus soon as we can so we can get back to normal,” Rader said.

David Albright, Chestnuthill Township manager, said while the office is not open, officials are still taking calls, emails and sending out text alerts.

“We are trying to do our part to flatten the curve in this time frame. I personally don’t know how long we will have to do this but we are doing the best we can and we are trying to hang tough and make it through this ‘flatten the curve period’ if you will,” Albright said. “We are trying to do our part and be good citizens and stewards.”
