Cancellations, announcements

• Effort UMC has canceled all services through March 31. Check for a link for an online Sunday morning worship on the church website effortumc.org. That line will be active then.

The church has announced a change in terms of the dine-in lasagna dinner. It has been canceled for April 3.

However, the church is taking orders for 10-by-13-inch pans of lasagna for takeout only. A pan will feed 6-8 people easily.

For costs and to place an order, email the church office at eumc103@ptd.net or call the office at 570-629-1890 by April 1. Pickup will be on April 4, between noon and 2 p.m.

• Middlecreek Christian Church, Kresgeville, will be live on its Facebook page at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Pastor Boothe will continue preaching the series of: The Final Words of Jesus. The church building will not be open.

• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, has canceled all Masses and parish events until further notice. The office is closed but an attempt will be made to answer all email and phone messages.

• St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, has no worship services, Bible study, committee meetings or choir practices for the rest of March 2020.

• Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville has announced that its community worship is canceled during the coronavirus threat, including the 5 p.m. informal spoken service on Saturday and the Sunday 8 and 10:30 a.m. services. Also canceled is Sunday school and midweek Lenten services.

Scholarship deadline

The Monroe County Conservation District and members of the Stanley Becker family have announced that applications are now being accepted for the 13th annual Stanley Becker Memorial Scholarship. This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior in Monroe County who is planning on attending college and majoring in an environmental field.

To apply, students may print an application or apply online at www.mcconservation.org. Deadline for applications is this Friday. For more information, call the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center at 570-629-3061.

Event changes

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club has canceled its April 5 block shoot and is postponing its April 19 Sportsman’s Day to May 17, as per club president Dave Detweiler.

Eldred closed

The Eldred Township Municipal Building is closed to the public.

Chestnuthill acts

The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors and staff have created a plan for township park properties in line with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources as of March 18. It includes the closure of the Chestnuthill Township Park (221 Route 715, Brodheadsville) in order to deter group activities from using facilities such as the building, basketball courts, volleyball courts, restroom facilities, etc. in order to encourage social distancing.

The other remaining park properties including the West End Regional Park, Big Woods Natural Area and the Silver Valley Natural Area will all remain open for trail use and passive recreation, although in accordance with state and federal guidelines maintaining a distance of 6 feet from other trail users and limiting walking groups to under 10 individuals is encouraged.

Please note that the events beyond March 30 will be based on the guidelines at that time and will be subject to change.

Cancellation continues

The Pennsylvania Game Commission Hunter-Trapper Education course for Spring 2020 that was to take place the Indian Mountain Rod and Gun Club on Route 534 in Kresgeville continues to be canceled trough April 30 according to information received Monday.

At that time, the resumption of classes will be re-evaluated.

The options shared Monday include: If one’s schedule allows, the person is asked to register for a class after April 30, realizing, however, there is a chance that the class may be canceled if this situation doesn’t resolve; or, one can take the online-only course, with no in-person component required, at https://www.hunter-ed.com/pennsylvania, using the code (PADSXH4o7RRSOP19).

During this time, students of all qualifying ages, 11 and older, will be allowed complete the online-only certification class.
