In other business, Tamaqua borough council:

• Accepted the resignation of part-time police officer Derrek Koch. Council hired Tyler Shilko as a part-time, seasonal worker at a rate of $10 per hour. They also voted to advertise for more part-time seasonal workers.

• Council approved certificates of appropriateness for 201 E. Broad St., 30 N. Nescopec St., and 415 E. Broad St.

• There will be a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on April 2 to review the results of a pool feasibility study. Council heard from resident John Gorgone, who suggested that he may know a contractor who might be able to do the renovation work that is needed at the pool. Gorgone said he was upset to hear that the current pool was not salvageable and asked if the borough had gotten a second opinion.

Council President David Mace said that he could not speak for the consultant, but he would defer to his judgment. Mace asked Gorgone to consider attending the meeting, and bringing information or contact with him.

• Resident George Boyle requested that the street sign placed at the corner of Jerome and Pitt streets be moved to the southeast corner of the intersection like others along the street.

• Council heard a request from the planning commission to appoint alternate members, as they do not always meet a quorum for their meetings. Connely suggested that if someone was on the planning commission and not doing their job, they be removed and replaced. A motion to appoint alternate members ended in a tied vote but was rescinded as council will review the situation more before making a recommendation.
