A Luzerne County driver was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Carbon County.

State police at Hazleton said Daniel J. Scalise, 21, of Hazleton, was driving a 2008 Ford Escape southbound on Route 93 in Packer Township, at 1:08 a.m.

Scalise went around a curve and his SUV went straight off the road, down a slight embankment before hitting a tree.

The car rotated 180 degrees before coming to rest on the left side.

Scalise, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Mary Jones. The vehicle sustained heavy front end damage.
