A look back: March 24, 1966

Gerald E. Kelly, urban renewal representative of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Philadelphia, spoke last night before the Palmerton Borough Council pertaining to federal grants available for urban renewal in the community.

Council has been considering the possibility of building a recreation area along the Lehigh River for boating, fishing, swimming and picnicking. It was disclosed the site is located near the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Route 248 and runs south to the confluence of the Aquashicola Creek and the Lehigh River.

Mayor Vincent Kappes also brought up the possibility of financing a youth center in the community.
