Augustus enjoyed big season at Kutztown

Northwestern graduate Jake Augustus was enjoying an impressive year for the Kutztown University baseball team before the season was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Augustus, a redhirt junior for the Golden Bears, was hitting .382 over the team’s first 11 games. The former Tiger had 13 hits in 34 at-bats, including three doubles. Augustus, who actually started the year 0-for-5 before going 13 for his next 29, scored 13 runs, walked five times and had three stolen bases.

The third baseman, who started all 11 games and helped his team compile a 7-4 record, also owned an eight-game hitting streak and had scored at least one run in nine of the team’s 11 games.

A year ago, Augustus hit .215 (17-for-79) with four extra-base hits and nine runs scored in 33 games.
