Cancellations and announcements for March 18, 2020

• St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning

, 826 Mahoning Drive W., Lehighton, has canceled worship service and all other events for the week of March 22 and 29. The Spring Bazaar for April 4 is also canceled and there will be no Easter candy sale.

• Faith Alive Church

, 678 Pine St. in Palmerton, has canceled all Bible studies and activities for this week. Check the church’s Facebook page for updates.

• The annual membership meeting of Glen Onoko Estates

in Jim Thorpe scheduled for March 21 is canceled. Please refer to the website glenonokoestates.com for the new date.

• The Nis Hollow Hunting Club

Landowners Banquet for March 28 at the Lehighton American Legion in canceled.

• The Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company

has canceled its Thursday night bingo for March 19 and 26. Check back for updates or visit us on Facebook.

In addition, the March 28 dinner/dance with Brian Dean Moore has been postponed until May 2. Anyone who has tickets and will be unable to attend on the new date should contact Bob at 570-401-4454.

• All passport applications at the Carbon County Prothonotary’s

office are suspended until March 30. Please call to make an appointment for filing or utilize the drop box on premise.

• Carbon County Friends of Animals

has canceled its Easter chocolate sale and Chinese auction in the Carbon Plaza Mall. The event had been scheduled for April 3, 4 and 5. Organization officials said if the situation changes in the next two weeks and the shutdowns are lifted, the event will be reconsidered and rescheduled.

• Wind Creek Bethlehem casino has voluntarily closed to the public and is planning to reopen at 6 a.m. March 29. While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at the property, Wind Creek Bethlehem has decided to close as precautionary measure because the health of our community is most important. During this temporary closure, Wind Creek Bethlehem has committed to paying both salaried and tipped employees. During the closure, the property will undergo a deep cleaning effort.

• The Giant

Company announced updated store hours to allow more time for team members to sanitize, unload deliveries, stock shelves, and better serve customers throughout the day, all store hours will be adjusted to 6 a.m.-10 p.m. beginning Thursday, March 19, until further notice.

Beginning March 19, all Giant, Martin’s and Giant Heirloom Market stores will open from 6 a.m.-7 a.m. daily in order to service only customers who are age 60 and older.

This will allow customers in this age category to shop in a less crowded environment, which enables social distancing. They’ll also be shopping before any other customers entering.

Beginning immediately, Giant is placing a limit of “two” on key categories throughout the store, including paper goods and disinfectant products.

The Giant Company is hiring temporary and part-time team members. Immediate positions as service associates, cashiers, general stock clerks, drivers and fulfillment center selectors are available. Apply online at the Giant website or speak with any store manager.
