A look back: March 17, 1994

Members of the Carbon County Planning Commission yesterday heard a progress report of a proposed new Carbon County interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Joel Eigen of Blauvelt Engineers of Philadelphia gave the report on a study of the proposed interchange at Route 903 in Penn Forest Township, which he said won’t open until the year 2000 and could be pushed back farther if the study finds problems, he said.

The interchange would make it easier for travelers visiting Pocono resorts and ski areas, Hickory Run State Park and the Pocono International Raceway and would also benefit those living in Penn Forest Township, where the population has more than doubled between 1980 and 1990, from 1,368 to 2,895 residents.
