Mahoning Township storage building to be demolished soon

The unused storage building located adjacent to Mahoning Township’s office could be demolished any day now.

Secretary Natalie Haggerty informed the board of supervisors of Mahoning at their Wednesday meeting that the building could be demolished soon. Haggerty said Hartman Contracting, which was awarded the project last month, just has to decide when.

Hartman’s $14,600 quote from the building’s demolition was chosen by supervisors at the end of February.

The demolition will bring Mahoning one step closer to the construction of its new municipal offices. Plans are still being drawing up, but Supervisor Bruce Steigerwalt said Wednesday that the forthcoming structure will probably be erected near the existing one on Mahoning Drive East.

The township’s current building was constructed in the 1960s. It’s cut in half, with the supervisors’ meeting area on one side and Mahoning’s police force on the other.

The new building has been a topic of discussion for years.
