Lehighton schedules kindergarten registration, assessment dates

Lehighton Area School District has set its kindergarten and registration assessment dates for the 2020-21 school year.

Registration and assessment will be done on the same day at the Lehighton Area Elementary Center, 3 Indian Lane. Appointments are available between May 11-14 from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1-2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Evening appointments are available from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday only.

To sign up, visit www.lehighton.org, click on registration at the top of the screen, followed by Kindergarten Registration 2020-21 and follow the instructions to set up an online profile for the child.

After completing the online registration process, you will be directed to click on a link, which will be active March 4, to schedule an appointment for each child’s registration/assessment.

Separate appointments must be made if there are multiple children in the family who will be registered. The child must be present at the appointment.

Parents are asked to enter the parking lot from Mahoning Street, park along the fence (on the flagpole side), and follow signs.

The following documents are required and must be brought to the registration appointment:

• A state-issued birth certificate or other acceptable proof of age and name is required. The document must be provided before the child will be admitted to school.

• A parent/guardian photo identification is required at time of registration. A guardian must provide a copy of legal guardianship with educational rights. If the guardian does not have legal custody, the parent must be present to sign with identification.

• Two proofs of residence dated within the past six weeks showing the parent/guardian name and address. Acceptable documents include gas and electric bill, water bill, auto insurance, verification of social services, bank statement, state identification card, phone bill, trash bill, unemployment or employment check, or a sworn affidavit of residency from an individual with whom the parent/guardian is living.

• New residents must provide a copy of a moving permit and one current document which could include a deed, mortgage statement, escrow papers, letter on apartment or mobile home park letterhead signed by the landlord, or a lease agreement and current rent receipt.

• Proof of immunizations including four doses of tetanus/diphtheria (one dose on or after 4th birthday), four doses of polio (fourth dose on or after 4th birthday and at least six months after previous dose), two doses of measles, mumps, and rubella, three doses of hepatitis B and two doses of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, or evidence of immunity.
