March 3, 2012 — Palmerton’s Sawyer Allen and Karl Pielmeier both win gold medals on the second day of the District 11 Class 2A swimming championships. Allen captures the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:02.27, while Pielmeier takes the 500 free in 4:50.34 — nearly 11 seconds faster than his closest competitor. The Blue Bombers’ Katie Pielmeier earns second in the 100 breast. Tamaqua’s Joann Butkus finishes fifth in the 100 free, but sets a school record with a time of 54.56.
