Tamaqua Area School District recently set up video game “suites” in its middle and high schools. The new gaming area has proven extremely popular with students, who must meet grade standards in order to participate. Here’s why they like the new opportunity:
Conner Dillon, eighth grade“It’s something to do in ninth period. I have two study halls, and usually study in the first one so I can do gaming in the second one.”
Spencer Dennis, eighth grade“It’s really cool, something for us to do with other students. There are usually a lot of people signed up for it.”
Jacob Evans, eighth grade“It’s great for students that don’t have anything like it at home. Plus if you can play at school, you can do it with other people.”
Ceanna Gormley, sixth grade“It’s a time to relax from school work, and focus on something else for a change. But you have to study and get good grades to be here.”
Adam Bachert, eighth grade“I think it’s already had a very good impact — you need good grades to play. It also is showing that video games can be good for people.”
Jeremiah Williams, eighth grade“I like when I have school work but I get it all done, and then I can relax. You work all day at school, and then you can relax before you go home.”
