A look back: Feb. 17, 1976

An Alpha, New Jersey, firm today submitted the lowest of six bids received by the Carbon County Redevelopment Authority for the demolition and land clearance of the first phase of the Susquehanna Street Redevelopment Project in Jim Thorpe.

John J. Loveatz Sr., representing the Excavating and Demolition Contractors, submitted a bid of $13,800 for the work. The highest bid came from the Dore Wrecking Company, a Michigan firm, which sought payment of $32,763 for its services.

The first phase of the project covers five parcels between but not including Queen’s Beverages, to and including the C. and D. Motors Inc., owned by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cossman of Jim Thorpe.
