N’western grad Wehr named Moravian softball captain

The Moravian College softball squad recently selected Northwestern graduate Brooke Wehr as one of its team captains for the 2020 season.

Wehr, a catcher in her second year as a team captain, is a two-time Landmark All-Conference First Team honoree, making it as a catcher in 2019 and an outfielder in 2018. She is also a two-time selection to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region Third Team,

Wehr has 106 hits, 92 runs, 16 doubles, three triples, 19 home runs, 69 RBIs, 17 walks and a .369 batting average in 80 career games.

The junior joins senior Lauren Goetz and junior Maura Kane as one of Greyhounds’ captains.

“Our three captains have natural leadership qualities, both on and off the field, that are respected by players and coaches alike,” said head coach John Byrne, who is entering his 27th season leading Moravian. “They understand and embrace the tradition of Moravian Softball and are communicating that message daily to their teammates.”

The Greyhounds are slated to start the 2020 campaign on Sunday, March 1 when the squad plays John Carroll (Ohio) University and Illinois College at the PFX Spring Games at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida.
