Meed’s Memorial

Meed’s Memorial United Methodist Church, 126 W. Catawissa St., has announced the following schedule at the church.

Sunday services will be held at 11 a.m. Nursery and children’s Sunday school are available during the service.

The church also hosts a clothing ministry from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

The next community dinner at the church will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 26. Ash Wednesday service will also be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26.

Neighborhood watch

The next Nesquehoning Neighborhood Watch meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 in the borough hall. All are welcome.

Recreation Commission

The next Nesquehoning Recreation Commission meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 in the recreation center.

Summit Hill

Historical Society

After two full seasons of hanging proudly in the borough, the 2018 banners have been taken down. As detailed on the original application, those who purchased the banners may have them back.

If you purchased a banner or know someone who did, they can be picked up at the Summit Hill Historical Society Museum from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday. Please note the museum is now located inside the Summit Hill Heritage Center, 1 W. Hazard St. Go in the front door and up the left stairs.

If you purchased a banner but you’re not sure what to do with it when returned, you may leave it in the historical society’s care. The group plans to take any remaining banners and come up with a future display.

Senior center

The menu at the Panther Valley Senior Center for Feb. 3-7 is:

Monday: Barley soup, turkey sloppy Joe, roasted potatoes, cookie or beef and cheese sandwich

Tuesday: Caprese pork chop, brown rice, broccoli, diced pears or beef and spinach sandwich

Wednesday: Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, lima beans, apple slices or tuna salad sandwich

Thursday: Baked fish, mac & cheese, stewed tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, Jello or harvest salad with chicken

Friday: Carrot ginger soup, teriyaki glaze pork, brown rice, stir fry vegetables, melon or deli club sandwich

The Panther Valley Senior Center has announced upcoming events for Feb. 3-14.

Super Bowl Celebration on Feb. 3 at 11 a.m.; Candy Bingo on Feb. 4 at 10:45; Meet the New Commissioners on Feb. 5 at 11 a.m.; Poker-Keeno on Feb. 6 at 11 a.m.; Scattergories on Feb. 7 at 11 a.m.

Now You Have It Now You Don’t on Feb. 10 at 11 a.m.; Birthday Bingo on Feb. 11 at 10:45 a.m.; Penny Game on Feb. 12 at 11 a.m.; Trivia on Feb. 13 at 11 a.m.; Valentine’s Day Party on Feb. 14 at 11 a.m.

Bus trip to Sights and Sounds June 25 to see the Queen Esther Show.

Public library tax help

The Panther Valley Public Library will offer assistance to seniors age 60 and older who qualify for the rent/property tax rebate in preparing federal income tax form 1040 and the Pennsylvania tax return.

This service will be offered at the library, 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 14 and March 20.

Appointments are required for these services.

Donations to support the library will be accepted.
