Mahoning Township Police have reported a trio of break-ins that occurred on the same day.

Township police Chief Audie Mertz said the first raid occurred sometime between 3-5 a.m. Jan. 16 at the Jake Arner Memorial Airport.

“There was a white male that climbed over the fence and entered into the airport and walked around inside some of the hangars and also entered a vehicle that was outside the fence in the parking lot; that car was owned by one of the flag crew for the medical helicopter,” Mertz said. “By all appearances, it looks like he tried (to take) the vehicle because the vehicle was started while the male was inside of it, but he wasn’t able to move it.”

Mertz said police also got a call at 7 a.m. that day from a resident on Fredericks Grove Road about a vehicle being entered into overnight with money and a GPS unit being stolen.

He said the third incident that day took place at 9:20 a.m. when a pickup was stolen from a residence on Carnation Lane. Mertz said the truck was recovered in a wooded section of property along Airport Road on Jan. 18.

Mertz said police have a suspect, and that the incidents are believed to be connected.

“We don’t have an identification,” he said. “We just have some security footage right now from the airport.”

Mertz said the cases are open and are under investigation.
