Albrightsville fire company seeks new funding formula

Officers and members of the Albrightsville Volunteer Fire Company came to the Kidder Township board of supervisors to ask for a new formula for funds distribution at Thursday’s meeting. The fire company sent a letter to supervisors, and it was discussed during an executive session prior to the meeting. Supervisors’ Chairman Tom Bradley said it was under consideration.

Fire company member Dennis Rings, who spoke during the public comments session, noted that when Kidder #1 in Tannery was active, funds from the township were split three ways. Since that station was absorbed into Albrightsville, funds have been split evenly between Albrightsville and Lake Harmony. Albrightsville is now responsible for two stations and two sets of equipment, some of which is in need of replacement.

Rings raised another concern, though he acknowledged the supervisors had little control over it. Radio reception is terrible in Tannery and Hickory Run State Park, he said. Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Company Chief Ralph Lennon agreed, saying, “Someone’s going to get hurt,” due to problems with communication. Bradley said they could probably “rattle some cages” at the county level, but that was about all.

No action was taken on distribution of fire company funding.
