A look back: Jan. 18, 1956

The Carbon County Commissioners today appointed Margaret Barclay, Lehighton, to the position as clerk in their office in the courthouse, Jim Thorpe, effective Monday, Jan. 23.

She will receive $2,000 a year, the salary fixed by the county’s salary board.

Proposed by Commissioner John Corby and approved unanimously by the full board, Mrs. Barclay succeeds Miss Irene Oleskyn, who was serving in that post until last week when she was named by Controller Allen Kistler to serve as his bookkeeper.

Barclay’s husband, Cpl. Thomas Barclay, is well-known as the commandant of the Lehighton Detail, State Motor Police.
