Jimmy Leahey to perform at the Half Time Bar & Grill

Under new management and with a new name and vibe, the Half Time Bar & Grill at the Zoo in Lansford will welcome Jimmy Leahy of Dennis DeYoung’s Music of Styx alongside his trio, The Grey Man Group on Jan. 31.

While music is a mere hobby or career for some, it is an entire lifestyle for others. Leahey, who is now living in Stewartsville, New Jersey, spent his childhood in North Plainfield, New Jersey surrounded by music.

His father, the great jazz guitarist Harry Leahey, began teaching him to play guitar at the young age of 7 and from there on, his passion for music bloomed into a lifetime of rock. According to Leahey, multiple people in his family were jazz musicians, including his grandfather, so from a young age, he knew he wanted to be a musician.

While in high school, Leahey formed his first cover band with two friends. They played songs by groups like the Eagles, Crosby and Stills & Nash but it was not until he graduated in 1981, that his career as a professional musician and music educator took off.

From then to now, he has played locally in countless NJ/NY clubs, bars and theaters but he has also toured with national acts including John Waite of Bad English, Glen Burtnik of Styx and now DeYoung.

Attendees can expect a diverse, rockin’ set list from this jam-packed show with music ranging from the 1950s until now. Leahey explained that regardless of what he is playing, he loves how the music affects people. He loves “playing something that brings them back” but also loves showing audiences new music.

“We’re up there to do the best we can for (our audience),” said Leahey. “We appreciate people coming out and keeping live music going … with all the craziness and darkness in this world, music is the light.”

This event, hosted by Gig Digger Events, will take place at 390 W. Snyder Ave. in Lansford. It will begin around approximately 8 p.m. and end around 11 p.m.
