Serfass sworn in for another 10 years as county judge

Steven R. Serfass was sworn in Monday in the historic courtroom one of the Carbon County courthouse in Jim Thorpe to his second 10-year term as a judge of the Court of Common Pleas.

Serfass’ wife, Jenny Cheng, read into the record the governor’s commission which confirmed his retention by the voters of the county.

Serfass was retained by the voters in November’s election, getting an overwhelming vote total in favor of his retention.

Serfass became the county’s 18th judge when he was sworn in on Jan. 4, 2010. When he took the oath of office, he was one of the youngest judges in the county’s history at age 40.

A lifelong resident of the county, he is a graduate of Lehighton Area High School and Dickinson College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and history, cum laude. He went on to earn his juris doctor degree at Temple University School of Law.

Serfass thanked the voters for having faith in him and returning him for another 10 years. He especially recognized the support of his family, wife, Jenny, and children, Benjamin and Hannah.

He said, “While growing up in Parryville I never dreamed I would one day be in this position.” He went on to also thank his parents and the entire courthouse staff for their support during his first 10 years as a judge.

Serfass took the oath of office from President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II with wife, Jenny, holding the Bible.
