Four area players named All-State Panther Valley’s Jenna Dubosky, Erika Dubosky and Olivia Dacey; Marian’s Alivia Karchner earn volleyball honors

The Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association recently released its 2019 All-State teams.

Panther Valley’s Jenna Dubosky, Olivia Dacey and Erika Dubosky were named to the PVCA Class 2A squad, while Marian’s Alivia Karchner was selected to the 1A team.

It marks the third straight year Jenna Dubosky was honored, and the second consecutive season Dacey and Karchner were selected. This is the first all-state honor for Erika Dubosky.

The Panthers advanced to the second round of the PIAA tournament for the second year in a row, capturing a remarkable fourth straight District 11 championship along the way.

“It means a lot,” said Panther Valley head coach Emilie Baker. “You see those three working really hard every day to be a good team player, and it’s nice that they get individual awards as well. They go out to win as a team, and it’s nice to see them get rewarded in a sense.”

Jenna Dubosky was named the Schuylkill League Division 2 Player of the Year for the second straight season. The senior had 79 aces, 373 kills, 12 blocks, 423 assists and 92 digs this season.

Olivia Dacey and Erika Dubosky both earned Schuylkill League Division 2 First Team honors. Dacey finished with 27 aces, 246 kills, five blocks, 10 assists and 139 digs during her senior year. A junior, Erika Dubosky tallied 129 aces, 256 kills, 61 blocks, 20 assists and 193 digs this past season.

“With Jenna and Olivia being seniors, it’s a big loss for us as a program,” said Baker, who is coming off her first season leading the team. “But they have left a lot behind, in terms of the leadership skills that they brought to the team, and the way they showed the underclassmen how to carry themselves – the underclassmen really looked up to them and followed the example that they set.

“They had a good work ethic that really filtered down through the rest of the team.”

Baker is hoping Erika Dubosky continues carrying the torch next season.

“She is going to play a very big role for us,” said Baker. “We’re going to be looking for her to take on more of a leadership role this season, and I know she’ll be working in the offseason to get even stronger to help the team.”

Both Jenna and Erika Dubosky, along with Dacey were also named District 11 Class 2A all stars this season.

Karchner, a junior who also earned District 11 and Schuylkill League Division 1 First Team All Star honors this past season, recorded 271 kills and 813 attacks to go along with 30 aces and 50 digs to help the Fillies reach the semifinals of the District 11 tournament.

All of those totals were up from a year ago – 157 kills (452 attacks), five aces and 19 digs.

“Good for her,” said Marian head coach John “Doc” Fallabel. “She’s a nice kid, a very sweet kid and really nice to be around.

“I’m happy and proud she is an All-State player.”
