Tamaqua New Year’s Eve lighting sponsor named; additional help sought for park lights

New lighting for the Tamaqua New Year’s Eve event scheduled for Dec. 31 at the ABC Tamaqua Hi-Rise will be funded by The Station Fitness Center, Cottage Avenue, and West Broad Bar Bell, a powerlifting center.

Pat Freeh-Stefanek, ABC Tamaqua Hi-Rise manager, said the response to the request was overwhelming.

“Generosity in Tamaqua is alive and well. We had 11 calls from folks who wanted to sponsor New Year’s Eve lights. The first caller was Eric Orach of The Station Fitness Center so we accepted his offer.”

Freeh-Stefanek said other callers are kindly asked to send their donations to the lighting project at Depot Square Park because those holiday lights also are being overhauled. All of the lights at the park are now LEDs, brighter and more colorful, and donations are being sought to pay for the switch-over.

Checks can be made out and mailed to: Tamaqua Area Community Partnership, 125 Pine St., Tamaqua, PA 18252. The check memo line should indicate that the funds are to be applied to Depot Square.

Lighting sponsors are being sought for the overhaul of holiday lights at Tamaqua Depot Square Park, which are being switched to a new color scheme using LEDs, shown here Friday. DONALD R. SERFASS/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
