Polk tree lighting

Polk Township’s 22nd annual tree lighting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, at the Polk Township Veterans Memorial and Adam’s Faith Garden at Salem St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville. There will be singing, arts and crafts, and a special guest arriving on a firetruck. Attendees are asked to bring canned food items for donation for the local food bank.

SAL meeting

The Sons of the American Legion will meet at the Legion in Gilbert at 7 p.m. Monday.

Monday Mass

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Monday. Though not a Holy Day of Obligation this year, Mass will be offered at 12:10 p.m.

Ladies Night In

Effort UMC’s United Methodist Women is slated to meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The group does not meet in January.

All Sports Club

The Pleasant Valley School District All Sports Club is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school library.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran’s group of knitters and crocheters will meet again at 1 p.m. Tuesday. New members are always welcome. Supplies and instructions will be provided for those who need them.

Chestnuthill supervisors

The Chestnuthill Township supervisors are slated to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal building on Route 715.

Winter chorus

The Pleasant Valley Middle School Chorus concert is slated for 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Band Chorus

The Pleasant Valley High School band concert is on the calendar for 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The snow date is Wednesday.

OTOH meeting

Operation Touch of Home will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Bird count

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center and Pocono Avian Research Center have announced their Christmas Bird Count.

Each winter, birders select one day to count all of the resident species in Monroe County.

The county is divided into areas, called count circles, which cover the variety of habitats from small backyard bird feeding stations to large marshes, forested areas, and the Cranberry Bog.

The program, begun in 1900, represents the longest running data set of bird populations. On Dec. 15, people are invited to join the KCEEC and the Pocono Avian Research Center for this year’s event.

All birders will be assigned segments of the count circle, and one may be teamed up with other birders to cover that area of the county.

At the end of the day, at 5 p.m., all will meet for the Tally Rally, warm beverages and pizza.

Preregistration is required for this free event.
