A look back: Nov. 2, 1970

Ideal weather prevailed last night for the Annual Pumpkin Parade staged by the Panther Valley Jaycees.

It was estimated that over 25,000 people viewed the parade, which took an hour and a half to pass the judges’ stand located on Ridge Street.

Lansford Borough and special police, Nesquehoning Fire Police and troopers from the state police barracks in Lehighton directed traffic to keep the 2½ mile parade route free of tie-ups. Peter Gardiner of Summit Hill directed radio communications along the parade route.

Jaycee official Robert Silver, chairman of the event, served as announcer for the event. Judges were George Thear, Philomena Fauzio, George Bright, Charles Beynen, Joseph Boyle and Agnes McCartney.
