Palmerton to add trees for Christmas in the Park

Palmerton’s Christmas is set to get a little brighter this year.

Each year, the borough’s holiday lighting committee, which raises funds for seasonal decorations, sponsors its hallmark event: Christmas in the Park. The committee put just over 100 trees in the park on Delaware Avenue last season, all of which were adopted and decorated by residents, local businesses and organizations.

But a still lengthy waitlist of those wanting to take on a tree of their own pushed the committee to look into increasing the number it makes available.

As a result, they upped that figure by a third.

“We’re really going to see a difference in the park,” Michele O’Neill, chairwoman of the Christmas in the Park Committee, said of the addition.

Set to take place the first Saturday of December, this year’s Christmas in the Park celebration will feature 150 trees. And O’Neill said there are still some up for adoption.

If you’re interested in adopting a tree, you can contact O’Neill at 610-737-4503.

Each tree requires a minimum $40 donation, and adopters are responsible for providing lighting for and decorating their tree.
