Palmerton man receives gold record award

Sully Erna and Godsmack officially received their Gold Record Award for their number one mainstream rock single “Bulletproof” from their album “When Legends Rise” at a private ceremony held at the offices of their record label, BMG, in Los Angeles on Oct. 14.

Noah Berlow from Palmerton and his L.A. company Immortal Cinema International LLC, produced and edited the 10-minute video short of “Bulletproof” starring Sully Erna and Godsmack and featuring guest appearances by country star Billy Ray Cyrus and rock group Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach under the direction of co-creator Troy Smith in 2018.

The Record Industry Association of America announced that “Bulletproof” reached 500,000 unit sales to qualify for the Gold Record on May 22.

Originally, to reach the Gold Record benchmark, a song’s record sales had to reach 500,000 sales.

In today’s streaming world, a single stream does not carry the same weight as an album sale. Instead, the RIAA says 1,500 song or video streams will be equivalent to 10 track sales or one album sale. That’s the equivalent of 75 million times the record was played.

“Given the current state of the music industry, this represents quite an accomplishment, and a tribute to Sully’s and Godsmack’s ability to write music that continues to connect with people 20-plus years later,” said Berlow.

Erna and Berlow will be continuing their successful collaboration on new projects in 2020.
