Oven fire results in minor damage to Lehighton bakery

An oven fire Wednesday morning resulted in minor damage at a Lehighton bakery.

Chief Pat Mriss said the incident occurred around 9 a.m. at Blended Bakery, 158 S. First St.

The oven was in self-clean mode, and fire erupted in the oven.

The fire went out on its own, and the damage was contained to the oven, with no damage done to the building.

Mriss said firefighters were on scene for about 30 minutes.

A short while after the incident, the business posted the following on its Facebook page:

“Hello all ... you may have heard the news. Blended Bakery had a fire this morning in our oven while it was locked on self clean. What a very scary moment! We had a strong smell of gas and a growing fire within the oven. We called 911 and UGI. The immediate response and help from our amazing neighbors at UGI and the incredible volunteers from the Lehighton Fire Company, first responders and friends leaves us speechless. What a stinking morning (literally)! All is well, everyone is safe and the bakery is open for business. We are down an oven ... but we are very grateful that is all.”

The bakery owner thanked everyone who responded, “including the fire company, UGI, first responders, and everyone who (took) the time to check in, call us, and even offering to help to get us back in action. Customers, friends, family, neighbors, volunteers, you all mean so much to us!”
