Weatherly council

Weatherly council addressed the following business at Monday’s meeting:

• Council said it will discuss a request from Weatherly Casting Co. to reduce the rate it pays for electricity at the workshop meeting in November. The foundry’s owners made the request at council’s workshop meeting in September.

• Council said the November workshop’s agenda will also include discussion on a new agreement with Packer Township for Citizens Fire Co. #1 to continue providing fire service. Packer has proposed a three-year contract where they would pay the borough $16,100-$16,400 per year.

• Council agreed to allow a group of Weatherly Area High School students and American Legion Post 360 to bury a time capsule near the Legion building, which is owned by the borough. The time capsule will be on display during the school’s Veterans Day program, scheduled for Nov. 11.

• Council agreed to hire BGM Engineers to design a rail trail connecting the borough to Lehigh Gorge State Park. The borough received a $3 million grant for the trail and a treatment system intended to improve water quality in the Black Creek.

• Councilman Jeffery Miller requested that the Schwab School Restoration Project give an update to council on any progress on the school.

• Pudliner said the borough extended the deadline for applicants for full-time police officer through Oct. 31 because they had received a small number of applications.
