Drug Take Back Day scheduled for Saturday in Tamaqua

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held at the Tamaqua Police Station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The event is sponsored by the Tamaqua Police and Safer Streets Tamaqua. A drive-thru will be available. Bring unused prescriptions to 320 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.

“There are drug take-back boxes around the area,” said John Sienkiewicz of Safer Streets. “There’s one at the sheriff’s department at the Court House in Pottsville. Rite Aids have it, Tamaqua police department has one, as well as others throughout the county. There are two factors here. One, just flushing your prescription meds down the toilet ends up in our water supply. That’s not a safe way to dispose of your medication. You can turn it in, so it’s disposed properly. And two, it may not be your kid or grandchild, anybody coming over to visit can come into your bathroom medicine cabinet or kitchen counter and take your medicine. It’s another way to prevent it from falling in the wrong hands and being misused.”
