Carbon OKs voter registration totals

Carbon County is gearing up for the November election.

On Thursday, the county election board approved the voter registration totals.

A total of 43,824 individuals may cast votes on Nov. 5. Of that number, 17,746 are Democrat, 19,330 are Republican and 6,748 are some other party.

To help these voters, the election bureau will again be out in the community this weekend hosting demonstrations of the new voting process.

Demonstration are:

• Weatherly American Legion, 360 Veterans Lane: 9 a.m. Saturday.

• Penn Forest Fire Company, 1387 Route 903, Jim Thorpe: 11 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.

• Palmerton Library, 402 Delaware Ave.: noon Saturday.

• Lansford Fire Company, 26 E. Patterson St.: 11 a.m. Sunday.

• Carbon Plaza Mall, 1241 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive East, Lehighton: 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, beginning Monday, the new voting equipment will be set up in the elections office, located at 76 Susquehanna St., Jim Thorpe, for people to view during business hours.

In other business, the election board filled vacancies for precinct election officials that it had available. Vacancies were for majority inspector, clerk, minority inspector, machine operator and judge of elections in various precincts.
