A look back: Oct. 19, 1996

The Salvation Army is inviting the public to show up at the corner of Broad and Hunter streets in Tamaqua this coming Tuesday afternoon when it will kick off a capital campaign to build an 18,000-square-foot Comprehensive Regional Community Center on the site of three properties on Broad Street.

The project campaign goal for the building of the center, which will serve the Salvation Army’s coverage region, is $1 million. The target date for groundbreaking is the spring of 1997.

The center will be built on the site of the old Victoria Theater and will also encompass the surrounding lots, including the former Job Service building.
