Apple and Fall Fest

An Apple and Fall Fest will be held at Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Music by “God’s House Band” from noon to 3 p.m. There will be a meat raffle with the drawing at 3 p.m. and a Chinese auction.

Homemade foods include apple dumplings, apple cobbler, apple and regular sausage sandwiches, shoofly-pie, soup, barbecue, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, and ice cream. There will be a wagon with apples, pumpkins, and fall items for decoration. Also Graver’s apple cider. Bring a lawn chair and your appetite.

Fall bazaar

Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 509 Hamilton St. in Bowmanstown will hold its fall bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There will be a Chinese auction, raffle, 50/50 drawing, baked goods and homemade soup. The kitchen will also be open.

Soccer benefit night

Join the Palmerton Boys Soccer Team for its annual benefit on Saturday at Palmerton Area High School on Fireline Road. This year’s beneficiary, chosen by the team, is Carbon County Friends of Animals. The game, Palmerton vs. Jim Thorpe, begins at 3 p.m. Admission to the game is free, but a donation for the collection bin would be appreciated. All proceeds from the half-time raffle will be donated to the group.

Fire prevention program

Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company, 259 Lime St., Bowmanstown will hold a Fire Prevention Open House from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Will have fire prevention tips, a vehicle extrication demo at 2 p.m. and a fire prevention trailer.

Concourse Club

The Concourse Club of Palmerton will sell a ticket to be used at any Boscov’s for Friends Helping Friends Day on Oct. 16. Shop from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. With ticket get 25% off lowest ticket price on many items. Proceeds from the tickets will benefit the Concourse Club. Call 610-826-2716 for ticket information.

Scarecrow Time 2019

October 2019 will be the ninth year of decorating our community with scarecrows. Starting Oct. 1, kindly display a scarecrow in front of your building or in your storefront window for the entire month. Be creative, and let your scarecrow showcase your business. For residential display, an ideal location is the front of your home. This is not a contest, but a show of community spirit. If a stand is needed, contact Brian Billig at Palmerton Lumber Co. to make arrangements. A small fee will be charged. Concourse Club meeting

The Concourse Club of Palmerton will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton. The program will be “Spooktacular Make-up.” The program will be presented by the Palmerton High School Drama Club and will offer tips and ideas for Halloween make-up. This is an open meeting with costumes optional.

Dementia caregiver support group

A dementia care giver support group will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville. Are you caring for a loved one and need support for your caring work? JUCC hosts a monthly support group operated by Manor Care that can help you navigate this process and assist in getting the help you need. This is free and open to the public. Monthly meetings alternate two different times. The November meeting will be at 11 a.m. and the December meeting at 6 p.m.

JUCC

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Trachsville, will observe Harvest Home Sunday on Oct. 6. Members are asked to donate nonperishable food items, canned goods or produce that will either be donated to CACPAC, given away privately, or sold to raise money for the church. Worship services are at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Canned items can be brought to the church anytime; however please wait until Saturday to drop off perishable produce items in the church building.

Canned Food Drive

Palmerton Area High School has three more home football games, Oct. 4, 11, and 25. The Palmerton Marching Band is still collecting canned goods to be donated to CACPAC. Bring canned and nonperishable food items to the marching bands concession stand. Donations will get you 50 cents off of your concession stand purchase. (per family per night).

Historical Society

The Palmerton Area Historical Society’s monthly program will be held on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Little White Church, Third Street and Columbia Avenue, Palmerton. The presenter for the evening will be Tammy Shane who will be speaking on “Strange, Odd, & Wonderful Tombstones.” The meeting is free and open to the public. For information call 610-824-6954.

Community meal

A free community meal will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. Come enjoy a free meal and fellowship.

Knitting Club

The Knitting Club will meet at the Palmerton Area Library from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 7. The club is free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting of all skill levels.

Breakfast

Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 6 at the Parryville Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2, 259 Main St. Platter choices include pancakes, French toast, SOS, eggs, and omelets. Choice of meats are bacon, ham, sausage, or scrapple. Includes, home fries, toast, juice and coffee. Large and small platters are available. For take out call 610-852-2350.

Regular Council meeting

A regular meeting of the Palmerton Borough Council will be held on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in Borough Hall Council Chambers, 443 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.

Living Hope Lighthouse Church

Living Hope Lighthouse Church will hold worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. Following the service will be a Fall Favorites Fellowship Luncheon. You are invited to join members in the service and luncheon.
