History of Latinos in Monroe presentation

The Monroe County Historical Association will hold a free program as part of the Third Thursday Lecture Series on Sept. 19.

Dr. Anthony Stevens-Arroyo will give a presentation titled “The Historical Formation of the Latino Community in the Pocono Mountains.” The program will be 7 p.m. at the Stroud Mansion, 900 Main St., Stroudsburg.

Since its founding in the 19th century, Monroe County has grown by the arrival of successive waves of new residents, who became essential parts of the county’s economic process, participants in social interactions and contributors to the rich mixture of cultural expressions.

In addition to the program, items such as event programs, family photographs and newspaper reports featuring Latinos and Latins in the county will be on display. The presentation will take place during Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

The Third Thursday Lecture Series is free, but reservations are required due to limited space. Light refreshments will be served. The presentation will be held on the second floor of the Stroud Mansion, which is not handicap-accessible.
