Towamensing Township to release security funds soon

Towamensing Township will release the $313,000 financial security put up before Dollar General’s construction on Interchange Road, just as soon as the developers who took on the project pay their past due fees.

Those fees, the Towamensing board of supervisors said Thursday, total more than $6,000. They cover township engineer and solicitor fees racked up over the project’s completion.

Land development plans often include improvements to streets, curbs, sewers and other projects. After the total costs of those improvements are estimated, the project’s developer gives the township 110% of that amount in a financial security, which it holds until the work is done.

The township engineer — or, in this case, Greg Haas — needs to ensure the work is done, then the security can be released.

In a letter read by board Chairwoman Penny Kleintop, Haas wrote that he conducted an inspection of the improvements at Dollar General on Aug. 29. He added that the site work laid out in the building’s approved land development plan had been completed.

Haas recommended the security’s full release with the stipulation that the developers, an Alabama-based firm called Capital Growth Buchalter, pay any outstanding fees owed to the township.

Council agreed with Haas’ recommendation and made it into a motion. They plan to send a letter to Capital Growth Buchalter.

Also on Thursday, council announced that the township’s cleanup weekend will be held on Sept. 14 and 15.
