Local roundup: Results from Sept. 4

The Palmerton golf team won a Colonial League showdown against Moravian on Tuesday to keep its perfect record intact. Northwestern and Lehighton also posted wins on the links.

The Bombers’ triumph highlighted a busy and successful day for area teams, as Pleasant Valley, Jim Thorpe, Northwestern and Weatherly all picked up wins in boys soccer action. The Olympians’ girls soccer team also posted a victory.

Elsewhere, Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe, Palmerton and Pleasant Valley won in volleyball action, while Jim Thorpe posted a tennis victory.

GOLF

Palmerton-Moravian

Palmerton edged Moravian Academy, taking a 430-432 Colonial League decision to end a Moravian win streak that spanned over four seasons.

The Blue Bombers (8-0) used a strong round from medalist Tyler Hager, who shot a 78 on the day. Derek Rea followed with an 87.

Four second-half goals sparked Moravian Academy to a 5-1 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Julius Ewungkem led the Lions with two goals, while Austin Recinos, Gennaro Mazzella and Ryan Baki also scored.

Jonny Perloni scored for the Bombers, while keeper Nick Singleton made 14 saves.

The Bombers dropped to 1-1 on the season.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

A second-half surge propelled Blue Mountain to a 5-2 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

Tyler Steigerwalt and Michael Shlanta accounted for the Blue Raiders’ two goals.

Tamaqua falls to 1-1 on the season, while Blue Mountain remains unbeaten at 3-0.

Lourdes-Weatherly

Josh Andreuzzi’s two goals and two assists sparked Weatherly to a 5-3 Schuylkill League win over Lourdes.

Elijah Derr followed with two goals for the Wreckers, while Antonio Colecio chipped in with a score.

Wreckers’ keeper Dalton Tompkins made five saves.

Holy Redeemer-Lehighton

Holy Redeemer outlasted Lehighton for a 1-0 win.

The Royals’ Addy Bielski scored with 10:36 left to account for the game’s lone goal. Caton Fahey was credited with the assist.

Indians’ keeper Angelina Romito finished with eight saves, while Royals’ goalie Meredythe Baird recorded three to preserve the shutout.

Bangor-Northern Lehigh

Bangor knocked off Northern Lehigh for a 2-0 Colonial League victory.

Heidi Washel’s goal 35 seconds into the second half was all Jim Thorpe needed to secure a 1-0 non-league victory over Northern Lehigh.

Olympians’ keeper Katelyn Bos finished with four saves, while Bulldogs’ goalie Erica Detweiler made 12.

The Bulldogs held a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.

Sara Frankunas led the Bears with 14 kills, four blocks and three digs. Andrea Crilley followed with 10 kills, eight assists and three digs.

Lexi Burgos had 11 kills and five blocks up front, while teammate Cameron Caffrey added nine assists, seven digs, three kills and a pair of blocks.

Lehighton-Pottsville

Pottsville swept Lehighton 25-14, 25-15, 25-10 in Schuylkill League action.

The Indians’ Alyssa Frey had nine assists and five kills, Allison Reph added 10 digs and Gina Piccioni added eight digs.

Lourdes-Panther Valley

Panther Valley swept through Lourdes in its Schuylkill League opener, 25-4, 25-12, 25-11.

Erika Dubosky totaled four kills and nine aces for the Panthers. Jenna Dubosky had four kills and seven assists, while Olivia Dacey added four kills and three aces.

Jim Thorpe-N. Schuylkill

Jim Thorpe took a Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill in straight sets, 25-7, 25-6, 25-14.

The Lady Olympians’ Brandy Montemuro had seven assists and five kills for the Olympians. Abigail McGinley totaled 13 digs, Grace Baldassano had seven assists, and Autumn Snyder and Andi Hoherchak both had four kills.

Catasauqua-Palmerton

Palmerton swept Catasauqua 25-21, 25-8, 25-17 i Colonial League play.

Blue Mountain-Marian

Blue Mountain swept Marian 25-21, 25-19, 25-11 in a Schuylkill League match.

Ashlyn Klitsch had 10 assists and four digs for the Fillies, while Macie Mazalusky tallied seven digs, and Rebecca Dzuranin added five blocks.

Shenandoah-Weatherly

Shenandoah Valley picked up a 25-19, 25-8, 25-10 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Gianna Lowman recorded four kills and three digs for the Wreckers.
