Tuscarora and Locust Lake upcoming events

Several programs have been scheduled at Tuscarora and Locust Lake state parks in Barnesville, Schuylkill County.

• On Saturday, at 6 p.m. Redcreek Wildlife Center’s Peggy Hentz will present a program on live animals that she has rehabilitated. Meet Gabriel the owl and other birds of prey. The program will be held at the Locust Lake amphitheater. Shine only.

• Conversation volunteer Dave McSury will present a program on Sunday, in the Locust Lake program shelter located near the camp store starting at 4 p.m. He will use cultural artifacts to explain the culture of the Plains Indian over their history. Shine only.

• Join naturalist Robin Tracey on the Crow, Lake View and Spirit trails on Monday, at 10:30 a.m. The hike is 7 miles long and moderate in difficulty. The hike combines the best of the trails in Tuscarora State Park. Meet in the Crow Trail parking lot off Tuscarora Mountain Road. This is a dog friendly hike, but all pets must be leashed and get along with other pets and people. Shine only and bring a lunch.

• Join park naturalist and conservation volunteer Pap Knauss on the “Spirit of Tuscarora Trail” at 11 a.m. on Sunday, to search for summer wildflowers. The trail is 4.5 miles long and moderate in difficulty. The trail winds through the several diverse habitats with a beautiful view of the Tuscarora Lake cove. There will also be a steam crossing. Meet in the upper beach larking lot near the trail head and bring a lunch. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and get along well with people and other pets. Shine only.
