Kidder Township hike and bike trail work extension OK’d

Work on Kidder Township’s first phase of its new hike and bike trail in Lake Harmony is to get underway later this month. At their Aug. 15 regular meeting, Kidder supervisors approved an extension for the contractor, and the project is now estimated to be complete before the end of October. A delay in obtaining a Highway Occupancy Permit was said to be the cause.

Supervisors were unanimous in extending the Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zone on Route 940 through Dec. 31, 2023. A warehouse has been proposed for part of the zone, with an announcement of construction anticipated for this fall.

Supervisors also approved obtaining bids for the installing a pipe on Kirk Street at the Post Office lot, work that will allow the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to come in and repair the box where the drain is as it has been close to collapse.

New full-time police officer Ryan Poeldnurk was present for the meeting, and welcomed by supervisors and those in attendance.

A vacancy in the Environmental Advisory Council was filled by George Spencer of Albrightsville. Spencer has been active with the EAC as part of the township’s Clean Water Keepers.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture reported that some spotted lanternflies have been found on the Big Boulder property. Blue Ridge Real Estate has approved a release to the department so that they can start treatment on BRRE properties. The township was asked for a release for the township-owned properties, which supervisors voted to give.

Bills of $168,609 were approved.

Supervisors OK’d the planning commission’s recommendation to approve the Motto minor subdivision, and the Alvarez lots (2) combination.

Two unsold lots from the Carbon County Tax Claim Bureau have been returned to the township’s tax rolls.

In reports, roadmaster Bruce Berger said that Old Stage Road is done except for some sealing work. The zoning officer reports showed he approved zoning permits for two new homes, an addition, a garage and three sheds; and building permits for a new home, a new building, an alteration, six reroofs, three sheds, two HVAC and one remove and replace. The Sewage Enforcement Officer’s reports show that he approved permits for two new wells and one renewal, one new sewage system and a renewal; and two applications each have been made for a well, and a new sewage system.

The Penn-Kidder Library is moving from The Pine Point Plaza to the corner of South Old Stage Road and Route 903 in Penn Forest Township, into the former Houser Newman space. The library expects to open in their new space in early September. A request for a donation for the library was tabled, due to no one attending the meeting to speak about it.

The next regular township meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19, at the township building. The public is welcome.
