Palmerton news for Aug. 7, 2019

Palmerton Bike Fest

Palmerton Bike Fest will be held in the Palmerton Borough Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 10. The Band of Brothers (classic rock) will perform from 3-6 p.m. There will be food, vendors, tricky trays, 50/50, also a DJ. Boar Pit Barbecue will be selling pulled pork sandwiches and pulled pork wraps.

Park concert

The Concert in the Palmerton Borough Park for Aug. 11 will be by the Hazleton Band. The concert is in the borough bandstand from 7-8:30 p.m. This concert is sponsored by Harry Brown. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of great music.

The Bandstand Committee reserves the right to cancel a concert in case of inclement weather. There is no smoking or vaping in the park.

Carnival Day

Carnival Day will be held at the Palmerton Pool on Aug. 11. Come and enjoy a day of fun events. Sunday pool hours are 1-8 p.m.

JUCC

Worship services at Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, on Aug. 11 will be at 9 a.m. The youth group will be in charge of the service.

The West End Food Pantry is collecting bookbags for local children in need. Bring a new bookbag to church and make a difference in the life of a child. Bring donations to the church by Aug. 11.

Holy Trinity news

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton will hold worship service with children’s involvement at 10:15 a.m. on Aug. 11. Holy Communion will be observed.

Motorcycle club

Saturday Night Drags will be held at the Zinc City Motorcycle Club, Interchange Road, Kresgeville, from 3-9 p.m. on Aug. 10. Gates open at 2 p.m.

The club is sponsoring the West End Food Pantry during this season. As part of this, the club is asking that anyone who is going to attend an event please bring a nonperishable food item to help with this cause.

Community meal

A free community meal will be served at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton from 5-6:30 p.m. Aug. 13. Come enjoy a free meal and fellowship.

Family history

Do you know who your family is? Come to the Palmerton Area Library from 6-7 p.m. on Aug. 13 to learn how to research your family history.

Storytelling

Join local storyteller Kathy Long at the Palmerton Area Library for a program beyond the moon and stars. Open to all ages at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13. Free and open to the public.

Support group

The Monthly Grief and Loss Support Group at Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 14. Directed by a professional counselor, Susan Featro, this group is for people experiencing grief due to trauma, loss or death. It is an effort to assist people in the surrounding community to heal and find peace.
