Motorcyclist seriously injured in turnpike crash

A Montgomery County motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday evening in a crash along the northeast extension of the turnpike in Kidder Township, Carbon County.

State police at the Pocono barracks said Mark A. Fields, 65, of Collegeville, was operating a 2009 Kawasaki southbound. Prior to the crash, witnesses told troopers that they saw the bike aggressively wobbling before the rear tire blew out. The bike suddenly rolled and flipped over coming to rest along the right shoulder.

Fields was ejected from the bike. He was flown by medical helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Troopers said the preliminary investigation revealed the crash was due to a flat tire.

Traffic was backed up on Route 903 until the crash was cleared.
