Schuylkill woman pleads to threats, assault counts

A Schuylkill County woman entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Thursday to threats and assault counts and is facing a state prison term when sentenced.

Amanda Reed, 38, of McAdoo, pleaded guilty before Judge Steven R. Serfass to one count each of terroristic threats, criminal trespass, simple assault and possession of a controlled substance, contraband, into a prison. The trespass and contraband charges are felonies.

She was charged by Lehighton police for an incident on Sept. 29, 2016, along West Second Street. Police responded to an unwanted person report and learned that Reed had entered a residence without permission and had made threats with a knife. However, in her plea she denied she made threats using a knife. When taken to prison on the charges, she was found with illegal substances during the intake process.

She also pleaded to one count of driving under the influence for an incident on Jan. 30, 2018, filed by Jim Thorpe police. She refused a test.

She was scheduled to be sentenced on another DUI count which occurred on March 4, 2018, by Lehighton police along Route 443. She refused a blood test. Other passengers, including a 1-year-old boy, were found in the vehicle.

Serfass accepted the pleas, telling Reed she faces a standard sentence minimum sentence of somewhere between 18 to 24 months on the contraband charge, which is a state sentence.

Serfass deferred sentencing as Reed is going to apply for placement in the state’s intermediate punishment program. The program runs for two years and includes seven months in a state prison followed by a period in an inpatient drug and alcohol program run by the state and time in a halfway house.

Reed, who has been an inmate in the county prison since her arrest on the threats count, will now be transferred to a state correctional institution to be evaluated for the program. She will be sentenced after the state determines if she is eligible or not for the program.
