Flash flood watch in effect today

The National Weather Service has issued flash flood watch for our region from 2 p.m. through late tonight.

A hot and humid air mass will spread over the region today, and then the remnants of what was Tropical Cyclone Barry will pass through the region tonight. Showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight will be capable of producing torrential rainfall, with local amounts of 2 to 4 inches and even higher localized amounts potentially occurring in a short period of time. This could lead to flash flooding.

Here is the latest forecast:

This afternoon: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 7 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 10 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Areas of fog after 2 a.m. Low around 70. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 8 a.m. Areas of fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 95.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 73.
