A Carbon County woman was jailed on Saturday following a retail theft and a resisting arrest incident.

Summit Hill police were dispatched to the Miner’s Market for a out-of-control woman causing a disturbance. On scene the clerk at the store said the woman left and did not pay for a “slushie.” The clerk pointed out the woman walking on a nearby street. Police caught up with the woman, who was identified as Nadine Renee Leibensperger, 30, of Summit Hill. The officer told Leibensperger to put the slushie down on the ground because she was under arrest. The officer attempted to handcuff the suspect but she refused and struggled with the officer. The officer eventually was able to handcuff the suspect but it took a substantial amount of force to get her in custody. She was taken back to the market and positively identified by the clerk as the woman who caused the disturbance and took the slushie without paying for it. She was taken to the police station but refused to give a statement.

She was arraigned before on-call District Judge Eric Schrantz, of Jim Thorpe, on charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and retail theft. She was unable to post bail and was committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning.
