Third Thursday lecture series in Monroe

The Monroe County Historical Association will hold a free program open to the public.

John Layton will give his presentation, “The History of the State Route 191 Tunnel Bridge” as part of the Third Thursday Lecture Series.

The program will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Stroud Mansion, 900 Main St., Stroudsburg.

Vice President of the Paradise Historical Society, Layton’s program will share the history of the unique tunnel bridge located on State Route 191 — currently under construction. The tunnel-bridge has also been known as the Stites Tunnel Bridge and the Spragueville High Bridge. The original 1911 construction of the tunnel bridge will be discussed as well as stories about railroad activity.

The Third Thursday Lecture Series is free, but reservations are required due to limited space. Light refreshments will be served.

The presentation will be held on the second floor of the Stroud Mansion, which is not handicap-accessible.
