Dimmick Memorial Library August events

Dimmick Memorial Library, 54 Broadway, Jim Thorpe has announced the following events will be taking place in August.

• The Friends of the Library will hold its book sale from Aug. 2-3 in the library.

• Storytime will be held every Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. in the library. The themes will be Rockets on Aug. 2; Self-esteem on Aug. 13; Back to School on Aug. 20; and Asking for Help on Aug. 27.

• The Dimmick Library will be hosting a lecture on “Telescopes: How to Pick One and How to Use One” on Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m. on Aug. 7. The evening’s host, David Starling, will give attendees the rundown on the different types of telescopes and their various purposes. There will also be some telescopes available to try out. If the weather is decent, the group might get to put them to the test.

• The Coaltown Crafters will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 8. All crafters welcome. The crafters are meeting at 119 W. Broadway this month.

• The library’s Board of Directors meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 in the Jim Thorpe Borough Hall.

• The Dimmick Lego Club will meet from 4-5:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 and 28.

• The Dimmick Book Club will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 in the library.

• The Dimmick Lab Rats: STEM Saturday event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 17. Stop in, explore and learn in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Every month the group will do a themed project aimed to teach you more about the science of the world around us.

• Summer reading at the Dimmick Memorial Library ends on Aug. 17. Make sure to get in any last minute reading slips for library’s final drawing.

The Dimmick Library’s Saturday summer hours will end on Aug. 24. After that the library will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
