The Carbon County Commissioners received notification Tuesday that Dennis J. DeMara, manager of Mauch Chunk Lake Park along the Lentz Trail between Jim Thorpe and Summit Hill, has been called to duty with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

Chairman Albert U. Koch said DeMara will be granted a leave of absence under federal law while he will participate in a three-week Joint Chiefs of Staff exercise — “REFORGER 87.”

The exercise, “Return of Forces to Germany,” represents a large-scale overseas deployment of troops from around the world in demonstration of America’s commitment to NATO and this nation’s ability to rapidly reinforce Europe, if threatened.
