Pig found in Palmerton, housed at Carbon shelter

Are you missing a pig?

If so, Carbon County Animal Shelter may have it.

Tom Connors, shelter director, said that he received a call from Palmerton police around 8 p.m. on Tuesday after someone found a small pig on the outskirts of the borough.

Connors and his daughter picked up the swine and it is now in his care at the shelter.

“It doesn’t appear to be an old pig,” he said. “It’s pretty friendly and its ear is tattooed and there is a spray painted dot on it.”

Connors is well-versed in dog care, but when it came to a pig, he enlisted the help of his friend Angie Scherer of the Lehighton Animal Hospital for help on how to make it feel at home. Scherer owns a pig herself.

“It’s safe now and off the street, but whose is it?” Connors said, noting that he can only keep it at the shelter another day before he has to find it other accommodations.

He said that the pig may either be a pet or a farm animal, but if no owner comes forward, he wants to make sure it finds a home, whether it is a rescue or with a family.

If you know of someone who is missing a pig in the Palmerton area, call the Carbon County Animal Shelter at 570-325-4828 and leave a message.

Connors said that he would release the pig if the person can prove it is theirs.
