Lehighton to hold Heritage Weekend

Lehighton plans to celebrate Independence Day with a two-day spectacle in the heart of its downtown.

The Lehighton Borough Parks & Recreation Board will partner with the Lehighton Downtown Initiative to host the 2019 Lehighton Heritage Weekend Saturday and Sunday.

Heritage Weekend has something for people of all ages, according to Autumn Abelovsky, secretary of the Parks & Recreation Board.

“Heritage Weekend is a time for the people of Lehighton to gather in the center of town and enjoy our No. 1 asset: the community itself,” Abelovsky said. “Whether it’s playing yard games around the fountain, sitting in the amphitheater listening to music, or enjoying the trucks on display on North Second Street, anyone can look around and find someone in the crowd that they know.”

Abelovsky said the experiences gained from the event will likely prove invaluable.

“Heritage Weekend may last for only two days each year, but the memories that are gained will last us a lifetime,” she said. “And if we’re lucky, we can pass the stories of our experiences on to future generations, and one day today will be the heritage stories of tomorrow.”
